The day has been designed to give you the opportunity to work through some common scenarios and challenges when working in the Urgent Care setting. The format of the day will be along the lines of an OOH session /duty doctor day, and in particular will focus on: Referrals to the acute medical assessment units and GPSU, what factors to consider and when to refer to GPSU. Spotting and treating the acutely unwell child, guidance and case discussion of factors to look for. Triaging abnormal lab results, what needs actioning urgently when you are the on-call GP or in ‘out of hours’. Interfacing with other health professionals and acutely unwell patients, communication tools and structures to help gather from colleagues and relay important information to other professionals. Managing the acutely unwell patient on a home visit, how to prepare for this, what kit to keep ready and how to access appropriate timely support. Surgical emergencies and how to get the right help, linking in to different pathways of support for surgical cases across BNSSG.
